Mexico, Salvage dredging of the 'APL Panama'

The trailing suction hopper dredger 'Francesco Di Giorgio' has been performing salvage works for Titan Maritime to liberate the 260 m long container vessel 'APL Panama' which stranded 25th of December 2005 on the beach of Ensenada (Mexico), just in front of the entrance of Ensenada harbour.
To pull the big container vessel back in deeper waters, the 'Francesco Di Giorgio' has dredged a channel towards the stranded vessel in very shallow waters. The final trench will be at least 50 m wide and 8-10 m deep.
The dredger is special because of its manoeuvrability, low environmental impact and its capability to dredge in shallow waters.
Upon contact Jan De Nul Group undertook at full speed the preparation with full cooperation of the Port of Corintho (Nicaragua) and sailed to the place of the calamity.
In a matter of days the works were started and successfully performed.
