The Rotterdam Port Authority announced its intention today to grant the construction work
for Maasvlakte 2 to a consortium consisting of Royal Boskalis Westminster nv and Van Oord
nv. The contract will be signed early next year.
The consortium will build the first section of Maasvlakte 2 between 2008 and 2013. The work
includes the construction of sea defenses, the first harbor areas, 2.5 km of quay walls, and
the road and rail links needed to provide access to Maasvlakte 2. After the completion of the
work, the consortium will also provide maintenance for Maasvlakte 2 for the first five years.
The contract involves a total of approximately € 1 billion, 50% of which is for Boskalis.
Peter Berdowski, Boskalis CEO:
“We are pleased and proud as a Dutch company to be involved in this major project in our
own country. The Second Maasvlakte confirms the position of the Netherlands as a leading
nation in maritime construction.”
