Launch of the cutter suction dredger Helios

On 21 May 2016, the new cutter suction dredger (CSD) Helios has been launched at the shipyard of Uljanik in Pula (Croatia).

The Helios is being built for Royal Boskalis Westminster, it is a self-propelled CSD, with a total installed power of approx. 23,700 kW and a pump ashore capacity of 15,600 kW.

Boskalis has ordered this dredger with Royal IHC (The Netherlands), which in its turn has the hull of the ship built at the shipyard of Uljanik.

The hull will now be prepared for towage to The Netherlands where the construction of the ship will be completed by Royal IHC.
This comprises amongst others the installation of the main dredging equipment, like the cutter ladder and the spud carrier.
