Recently, Jan De Nul Group started the dredging works for the Koniambo Nickel Project in New Caledonia by order of Koniambo Nickel SAS, a joint
venture of Société Minière du Sud Pacifique and
Xstrata Nickel. The works involve the dredging of a 5
km long channel and turning basin for the future
nickel export port. Around 8 million cubic meters of
materials will be excavated. The project value is 66
million €.
It presents a new frontier for Jan De Nul Group as this
project is the furthest we have ever operated away
from our home base. This in itself will require a
logistical "tour de force" from our organization. But,
challenges like this we relish.
