Abu Dhabi - Saadiyat Island

Jan De Nul has won a 175 million Euro contract from The Tourist Investment & Development Board of Abu Dhabi to build an island off the coast of the Persian Gulf.
The project consists of raising the island of Saadiyat from 2 metres to a hill with a top of 11 metres above sea level.
This represents approx. 35 million m³ of sand.
One cutter suction dredger and two trailing suction hopper dredgers will be deployed for this work.
When ready, the triangle shaped island will be used for housing, hotels and commercial centres.
Work on the project is to start in February 2007 and is expected to be completed in the next two years.
